Research interests of the Chair

Dr. Conrod’s research focuses on the environmental, genetic and cognitive risk factors associated with drug abuse and mental health in young people. Her research team at CHU Sainte-Justine is conducting studies to understand the link between early initiation of substance use, other mental health problems and future addiction. The results of this research are used to develop new approaches to promoting mental health and preventing substance abuse that address risk factors identified among young people.

1.     Characterize interventions

• Identify the key elements of the intervention that make it effective for children in vulnerable situations.
• Identify the elements of the intervention that are innovative in relation to children in vulnerable situations.

2.     Develop measuring tools adapted to the vulnerable clientele

• Develop quantitative and qualitative instruments to improve assessment and measure the effectiveness of complex interventions.

3.     Define efficiency and effectiveness of interventions

• Measure the impacts of interventions that follow the community social pediatrics clinical approach.
• Identify interventions that have a greater impact on the development of children, their families and the community.
• Measure the cost-benefit of this type of intervention.
